What's an easy way to find variable annuities?

Morningstar uses short names to quickly identify variable annuity subaccounts within a policy. Click here for the most recent list of short names and the associated Insurance Company Name.

To search for an individual annuity:

  1. In the left navigation pane, click Research. The Research area opens.

  2. In the left-hand column click, click Variable Annuity. The Variable Annuity folder opens and displays VA Policies and VA Subaccounts.

  3. Click on VA Subaccounts. The Variable Annuity Subaccounts spreadsheet opens.

  4. On the Action Shortcuts tool bar, click New. The Search box opens.

  5. In the Field Name column, click on Click here to start a new search. The data categories open.

  6. Snapshot is the first category; click on it.

  7. The ninth item down is Firm Name. Click it.

  8. The cursor moves to the Operator column and the default is =. Keep that and click in the Value column. The Select Firm box opens.

  9. Find the insurance company/firm name, and click OK. The insurance company name populates the Value column.

  10. Click Run Search to get a quick count of your search results.

  11. Click OK to see search results.

To search for a policy:

  1. In the left navigation pane, click Research. The Research area opens.

  2. In the left-hand column, click Variable Annuity. The Variable Annuity folder opens and displays VA Policies and VA Subaccounts.

  3. Click on VA Policies. The Variable Annuity Policies spreadsheet opens.

  4. On the Action Shortcuts tool bar, click New. The Search box opens.

  5. In the Field Name column, click on Click here to start a new search. The data categories open.

  6. Click on the first category, Snapshot.

  7. The seventh item down is Insurance Company. Click it.

  8. The cursor moves to the Operator column and the default is =. Keep that and click in the Value column. The Select Insurance Company box opens.

  9. Find the company name, and click OK. The insurance company name populates the Value column.

  10. Click Run Search to get a quick count of your search results.

  11. Click OK to see search results.
