When the CUSIP or ticker for an investment changes, this can cause an out of balance situation when importing. If the security whose name has been changed is tracked by Morningstar, this situation will resolve itself when the data is updated. However, if you need to import before the exceptions are cleared, you can map the security from the import blotters.
To map a new user-defined security to a Morningstar-tracked security, do the following:
From the import blotters, in the left navigation pane, click Securities and then New User-Defined Securities.
Scroll to the Morningstar Mapped Holding column.
In the row where the error appears, click the magnifying glass icon.
The Find Securities dialog opens. Click the Within drop-down and select the appropriate universe.
Type the name of the security and click Go.
Select the name of the correct security and click OK. You are returned to the New User-Defined Securities blotter.
Scroll right to the Use As Substitute column, click the drop-down and select Yes.
Note: Skip this setp if you are mapping VA subaccounts. See the Variable Annuity Subaccount Logic topic for more information.
In the Price Source column, confirm that the proper price source is selected.
Click Save.
To change the name of a user-defined security, do the following:
From the Tools menu, select Edit Definition Master. The Definition Master should default to the Securities page under User Defined Securities section. If not, navigate there.
Right-click the user-defined security you want to change and select Edit. A new window opens.
Change the data in the Symbol, CUSIP, and/or Description fields.
Click Save + Close.
A dialog confirms that the security is saved. Click OK.
If transactions are generated due to a name change (deliver-ins and deliver-outs), they should be deleted before posting.
To delete transactions created by a name change, do the following:
From the import blotters, in the left navigation pane, click Transactions. The Transactions blotter appears.
Check the boxes to the left of the transactions you want to delete.
On the Action Shortcuts toolbar, click Delete. The transactions are removed.
