Client Position Summary Report

The purpose of the Client Position Summary Report is to breakdown the individual positions of a client's holdings as of a certain date. It can also show each holding's unrealized gain/loss if applicable, and give a brief look at the client's aggregate position.

To access this report, open a client account, and from the top menu click on Reports, Client, Client Position Summary. You can then choose to run the report By Account or By Security. By Account breaks each account's positions down into their underlying holdings. By Security lists each security's position first on the aggregate and then lists the position for each account it is held in.

Report Options
  1. Click the drop-down menu and select Yes or No to include a Cover Page.

  2. Set the As of Date for the report. The date can be typed into the field or use the drop-down calendar to select a date.

  3. Under the Sort By drop-down you can choose whether to sort the accounts' underlying holdings by Security Name or Security Type.

  4. The Remove Cost and G/L option allows you to remove the cost basis information columns from the report.

  5. When checked, the Hide Closed Account Option will not display accounts with a Close Date added to their Account Profile.

  6. The Client Aggregation Holding List option allows you to add a section showing the aggregate of the client's holdings as well as each individual account. Note: This option is only available for the By Account report.

  7. Uncheck the Account Holding List option to remove the report sections that breakdown each account's underlying holdings and information. Note: This option is only available for the By Account report.

  8. Select Mask Account Number to limit the amount of an account number that is displayed on the report. This inserts a level of security when reports are e-mailed to clients or uploaded to the Web via the Client Web Portal. Click here to see how the masked account number will be represented (based on the number of characters in the account number).

  9. The Investment Activity Chart from Inception Date option allows you to increase the range of the chart back to the oldest account’s inception, allowing for a more complete view of the client’s history. If left unchecked, the graph will start 1 rolling year from your As of Date.

  10. If you choose to include a Cover Page, you can also use the option to Add disclosure to cover page. Click here for more information.

  11. When selected along with using a cover page, the Add blank 2nd page option inserts a blank page between the cover page and first page of the report.

The information below describes each column of the report.

Asset Allocation Chart - This pie chart looks at the asset-weighted composition of all of the holdings in the client’s portfolio for which there is underlying composition data. This is a quick way to look at the asset breakdown of the client’s entire portfolio. It also compares the allocation breakdown to the primary benchmark. Note: Holdings without composition information are grouped into the Not Classified sector. If an account contains any User Defined Securities, or if you do not agree with the classification Morningstar provides, you may want to reclassify them in order to get accurate composition data.

Aggregated Investment Activity Chart - This chart displays the client's aggregate market value over time. The standard time period is one rolling year to your set end date. If you selected to show the chart from inception date under the report options, the chart will display from the client's earliest account inception.

Top 5 Securities for Client - This table displays the top five securities in the client's aggregate by weight.

The Account Details section looks at individual account positions, as well as the client aggregate.

Name - The security name is listed here, along with the client's aggregate in bold. Each individual account is also broken down in this section.

Account Number - The account number associated with the client or portfolio. When the Mask Account Number option is turned on, some values within the account number are replaced with asterisks. Masking the account number inserts a level of security when reports are e-mailed to clients or uploaded to the Web via the Client Web Portal.

Account/Security Type - The assigned type for the security and account.

Unit Cost - The security's original cost basis. This is an optional column that can be removed in the report options.

Price - The security's price on the report as of date.

Quantity - the number of shares of each security held on the report as of date.

Unrealized G/L - The column displays the calculated gain/loss for each security or account based on the underlying cost basis. This is an optional column that can be removed in the report options.

Market Value - The total market value of each holding in the account as of the report date. Calculations vary based on the type of investment. Click here for calculations.

% Assets - The weight of each account and/or security represented as a percentage of the client's total portfolio. For the Client Position Summary by Security report, the column displays the percentage of each security within the account, and then the percentage of the account within the portfolio. This column on the Client Position by Account report only displays the percentage of the account within the portfolio.
