Recording past distributions and splits in transactional accounts

Morningstar Office allows you to record past distributions, capital gains, and splits. Note that if you import transactions from a custodian, corporate actions will already be posted to your accounts, and performing the steps below will create duplicate transactions. To record past corporate actions in a transactional account, do the following:

  1. In the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Management. The Portfolio Management tab opens.

  2. In the left-hand column, click Accounts. The Accounts spreadsheet opens.

  3. Double-click the transactional account you want to work in. The account opens, and you land in the Holdings area.

  4. Select the holding(s) for which you want to record corporate actions for by checking the box(es) to the left of the holding name(s).

  5. From the Action menu, click Record Distributions/Splits. The Record Distributions/Splits dialog box opens.

  6. In the Time Period area, select either User defined or Complete history. If you choose User defined, enter the start and end dates in the appropriate boxes in MM/DD/YYYY format, or use the calendar icon to select them.

  7. In the Dividend Distribution column, select Dividend Distribution, Reinvest Dividend, or None. The default setting is Dividend Distribution.

  8. In the Capital Gains column, select Capital Gain Distribution, Reinvest Capital Gain, or None. The default setting is Capital Gain Distribution.

  9. In the Include Split column, select whether or not you want to include splits. The default setting is Yes.

  10. Click Submit. The Transaction Blotter appears, listing the corporate actions.

  11. Click Post to Account. A dialog confirms how many transactions have been posted.
