An updated version of Morningstar Office is now available. It includes many new features and enhancements, including:
Accounting
Generate billing statements in advance as well as in arrears. From Home > Settings, choose Reports, Tax Lot Methods, Transactions, Management Fees. Choose New Setting > New Management Fees Setting. From the Bill In drop-down menu, choose Advance or Arrears.
Enter or generate monthly returns for user defined securities. Go to Practice > Tools > Edit Definition Master > Securities. To generate returns from prices that you have imported or entered, select the securities and choose Action > Compute Monthly Trailing Returns. To enter the returns directly, choose Action > Edit > Price Information > Monthly Trailing Returns Setup.
Merge user defined securities. From Practice > Tools > Edit Definition Master, select securities, then choose Action > Merge Security.
Post a partial list of transactions from the accounts blotter. Select the transactions you would like to post, and click “Post to Account.” If no transactions are selected, all transactions will post to accounts.
Import
Import using the Windows Vista operating system. Now, Morningstar Office is entirely compatible with Windows Vista.
Edit security information in the Securities Blotter prior to posting. Previously, security information could be edited only after posting.
Search within the import blotters for account numbers, tickers, CUSIPs, and holdings names. Use the Search For box at the top of the blotter.
Import multiple accounts, price files and security files from Advent Axys. Previously, clients could be imported only one at a time.
Identify and reconcile cash balances in Fidelity.
Select a custodian when importing from Excel. From the Microsoft Excel – Transactions dialog, choose the appropriate custodian from the drop-down box. This option allows you to merge data that is imported from custodian download files with data that you have stored in Excel.
Research
View price and dividend history from the new, interactive Price Chart. Select securities from Research, Accounts, or Workspace. Then, from the Action menu, choose Charts > Price. Roll over points on the chart to display historical prices. Click the Dividend, Morningstar Rating, or Style Box icons to display additional data on the graph. Change line colors and weight by clicking the security names in the legend. Export the resulting chart to PDF or PowerPoint.
Access growth values on the new Growth Chart by rolling over any points along the curve. Use the chart’s other interactive features, as described in the Price Chart section above. The Growth Chart replaces the Investment Growth graph.
Use the new Charts menu, which replaces the Graphs menu. The new menu choice is available from the Action bar and when right-clicking securities. Both the new interactive charts and the previously named graphs are available from this menu.
Search for securities using CUSIP and ISIN. These two new data points are available in the Snapshot View for Open-End Funds and Closed-End Funds. CUSIP has also been added to the Snapshot View for Stocks and Exchange-Traded Funds.
View % Rank Industry data for stocks for the 1-Month, 3-Month, 1-Year, 3-Year, 5-Year, 10-Year, and Year-to-Date periods. These data columns are available in the Total Returns view.
Access Save As, Add To, Reports and Charts options for Subaccounts after choosing View Subaccounts from a policy. Previously, these features were only available after accessing the subaccounts directly.
CRM
Share your calendar with others. Go to Home > Activities. Click Calendar and then Sharing.
Import from Act! and Goldmine. Click the Import button in the top navigation of any screen, and then click the Interface Name of your choice.
Planning
Plot the Risk Profile results along the Efficient Frontier. Create an Efficient Frontier Plan and complete the Risk Profile step. The Efficient Frontier Graph will plot the results in red.
View Wealth Percentiles from the Efficient Frontier. From the Graph tab of the Efficient Frontier Plan, click the Percentiles button.
Set up printing parameters from within the IPS/IRR reports. Generate a report and click the new “Page Setup” button.
