When comparing performance numbers across various reports, one of the most common questions received at Morningstar is "Why don't my reports match?". Some of the scenarios as to why this could occur are shared below.
The Current vs. Target Allocation and Current vs. Model Portfolio reports reclassify %Other and %Not Classified portfolios in accordance with the same methodology as the Planning tool.
For example, when a user runs a Snapshot for an account that has holdings in %Other and %Not Classified, the report shows these holdings in the proper buckets.

However, when a Current vs. Target Asset Allocation report is run for this same account using the Morningstar Basic asset allocation set, the %Other portion is now reclassified according to the methodology explained in the Auto Reclassification of Assets topic. Unlike Planning, there is no warning that it is being reclassified.
