Transaction: Cover Short Dialog Box

All fields listed in blue are required.

  1. Click the method you are using to buy back the security, by shares or by dollar amount. The default is By Share.

  2. In the Trade Date box, type in the date of the transaction or use the calendar icon to select the date.

  3. In the Price box, enter in the price. (If it is a security tracked by Morningstar, the price of the security on the trade date will populate. You may manually change that price.)

  4. If you are entering in the transaction by shares: In the Shares box, enter the number of shares you bought back on the trade date. The Amount box will be populated by Morningstar Office, multiplying the number of shares purchased by the purchase price.

If you are entering in the transaction by amount: In the Amount box, enter the total dollar value of your purchase. The Shares box will be populated by Morningstar Office, dividing the total dollar amount by the purchase price.

  1.  Click the Matching method specified arrow to select the matching method to use for the closing transaction. (If you select Specified, the Tax Lot dialog opens so you can specify the number of shares from each lot you are selling. Then you can click to view your selections.)

  2. In the Other Fee, Brokerage Fee, and Commission boxes, you may enter in fees associated with this transaction.

  3. In the Account Number and Account Name boxes, enter in the identifiers for this transaction.

  4. Click the Source arrow to indicate whether this sale was entered manually or imported. Manual is the default selection.

  5. In the Data Entry Date box, enter the date the sale is entered in the system. The default is today's date.

  6. In the Settlement Date, enter or use the calendar icon to select the date that the sale was settled. It will default to the trade date plus the settlement offset days needed for the security type.

  7. To record this transaction, click . The transaction is recorded. To save this transaction to the transaction blotter, click . The sale will be saved to the blotter, and will not be recorded until you post it to the account.
