Click the method you are using to enter this short sale, by shares or by dollar amount. The default is By Share.
In the Trade Date box, type (or use the calendar icon to select) the date of the short sale.
In the Price box, enter in the short sale price. (If it is a security tracked by Morningstar, the price of the security on the trade date will populate. You may manually change that price.)
If you are entering in the short sale by shares: In the Shares box, enter the number of shares sold on the trade date. The Amount box will be populated by Morningstar Office, multiplying the number of shares sold short by the sale price.

If you are entering in the short sale by amount: In the Amount box, enter the total dollar value of your sale. The Shares box will be populated by Morningstar Office, dividing the total dollar amount sold by the short sale price.
In the Other Fee, Brokerage Fee, and Commission boxes, you may enter in fees associated with this short sale.
In the Account Number and Account Name boxes, enter in the identifiers for this purchase.
Click the Source arrow to indicate whether this short sale was entered manually or imported. Manual is the default selection.
In the Data Entry Date box, enter the date the short sale is entered in the system. The default is today's date.
In the Settlement Date, enter (or use the calendar icon to select) the date that the sale was settled. It will default to the trade date plus the settlement offset days needed for the security type.
To record this short sale, click . The transaction is recorded. To save this short sale to the transaction blotter, click
. The sale will be saved to the blotter, and will not be recorded until you post it to the account.
