Microsoft Excel - Member Import

Morningstar Office allows you to import data from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to the Members area of the Client Profile. You can import new member information or update existing information by completing the following steps:

  1. In the File Name box, click the magnifying glass icon to browse to the Microsoft Excel file you want to import. Select the file and click Open. The path is displayed in the File Name box.

  2. If the spreadsheet contains data in the first row, the system automatically selects the File Contains Header Line option. The column names are then shown as selections when mapping the file for import. Note: If the file does not contain column headings, the first row should be blank (contains no data).

  3. Set the Date Format corresponding with the format for dates within the spreadsheet.

  4. The first row of information in the grid view specifies the data point that will be used to map the member information in the spreadsheet to the member in Morningstar Office. Click the Column Code drop-down field to select from the available data points to use for mapping.

  5. Click the Column No. drop-down field and map each data point to the corresponding column in the spreadsheet.

  6. When using the import to add a new member, you must specify the Member Name, Client Name, and Relationship. The Client Name and Relationship fields, along with many others, can be selected under the Add Data Point feature.

  7. Click Add Data Point to add a row to the grid view. The Select Data Points window opens.

  1. For each data point you added, click the Column No. drop-down field and map each data point to the corresponding column in the spreadsheet.

  2. Use the Delete button to remove data points from the grid.

  3. Click the Reset button to clear any selections in the Column Order area. Note: If you have imported data previously, the column selections shown may be mapped to a prior spreadsheet. Use the Reset button to clear those selections prior to mapping the current spreadsheet.

  4. Click the Import button to start extracting the data into the import blotters where you can review prior to posting to the client accounts.

  5. Click Cancel to exit the screen without making changes.
