Morningstar Office allows you to import notes on investments from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to the Note Manager. You can import new notes for investments tracked by Morningstar. Your spreadsheet must contain identifying information.
In the File Name box, click the magnifying glass icon to browse to the Microsoft Excel file you want to import. Select the file and click Open. The path is displayed in the File Name box.
Set the Time Zone corresponding with the client’s office. This will time stamp all notes as they are imported with the current date and time related to that time zone.
Set the Date Format corresponding with the format for dates within the spreadsheet.
The Security ID Type defaults to Auto Detect, which scans the file for any of the available types. Use the drop-down to select a specific format.
If the selected spreadsheet contains data in the first row, the system automatically selects the Header Row option. The column names are then shown as selections when mapping the file for import. Note: If the file does not contain column headings, the first row should be blank (contains no data).
In the grid area, use the drop-down menu under the Import File Column Definition to map the data points to the corresponding spreadsheet column. The spreadsheet must include one of the following data points: Security ID, Ticker, or Security Name. All other fields are optional.
Click the Import button to start extracting the data into the import blotters where you can review prior to posting to the client accounts.
Note: If the Note Title was not imported from the spreadsheet, you must enter this manually in order to post the note.
Click Cancel to exit the screen without making changes.
