Operations-ETFs

Ticker

The three- or four- letter trading symbol assigned to the fund by the exchange on which it trades.

Fund Family

The company which offers the exchange-traded fund. This information is taken directly from the fund prospectus.

Advisor

The company that takes primary responsibility for managing the fund

Daily Market Price

The price at which an exchange-traded fund may be bought or sold. The price listed is as of the most recent day-end, and may or may not be the same as the fund's NAV.

Daily NAV

NAV stands for net asset value, which is the fund’s share price (not to be confused with the purchase price). NAVs come directly from the fund company and are given out and calculated daily, weekly, and monthly. Because ETFs trade on an exchange, the fund's NAV may not be equal to its market price. Funds compute this value by dividing the total net assets by the total number of shares.

Fund Inception Date

The date on which the fund began its operations, in YYYY-MM-DD format.

Total Assets $MM

The net assets of the fund, recorded in millions of dollars. Net-asset figures are useful in gauging a fund’s size, agility, and popularity. They help determine whether a small-company fund, for example, can remain in its investment-objective category if its asset base reaches an ungainly size.

Expense Ratio %

The annual fee that all funds or ETFs charge their shareholders, expressed as a percentage of the fund's average daily net assets. This ratio includes such items as the management fee, trustee's fee, license fee, and 12b-1 fee, among others. It does not include the commissions you must pay to buy and sell ETF shares, or the costs incurred by the fund in trading its securities. HOLDRs do not express their fees as expense ratios, but instead charge a flat quarterly fee per 100 shares.

Turnover Ratio

This is a measure of the fund’s trading activity which is computed by taking the lesser of purchases or sales (excluding all securities with maturities of less than one year) and dividing by average monthly net assets. A turnover ratio of 100% or more does not necessarily suggest that all securities in the portfolio have been traded. In practical terms, the resulting percentage loosely represents the percentage of the portfolio’s holdings that have changed over the past year.

Average Daily Volume

The average daily trading volume of common shares during the trailing 12 months.

Exchange

Indicates the exchange on which the fund is traded. The most common exchanges for exchange-traded funds are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).

Web site

This is the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. A fund’s Internet address contains the address or the domain name where the Web site is located.

Phone Number

The number to call to receive more information about a fund, or fund literature.
