This refers to the size of the portfolio's investment in a given security on the date the portfolio was recorded. For equity funds, this figure gives the number of shares of a particular stock currently held by the portfolio. For fixed-income securities, this figure reflects the principal value of the security in thousands of dollars.
Note: To accurately reflect the number of shares of a stock or the principal value of a bond that the portfolio owns, the Share Amount is the same across a fund’s share class. For example, if we have information for three different share classes of the same fund, the Complete Holdings listed for each share class will be the same.

The amount column helps give the change column greater meaning. For example, if the amount figure for a portfolio's holding is 1000 and the change figure is -9000, the investor can see that the portfolio management sold 90% of the previous investment amount in that particular holding since the previously reported portfolio; this high percentage change might indicate a significant shift in management strategy. Conversely, if the change figure is -1000 for a portfolio holding and the amount figure is 9000, the management only altered its investment in that particular security by 10% since the date of the previous portfolio.
