Most of the sub or country specific investment universes are organized in a tree structure that can be expanded and collapsed for ease of use.
People/Institutions added as a new database type. The first database covered in this release is US registered investment advisors (firms level data, and executives/owners).
Two universes, Indexes and Morningstar Category Averages, can now be found under Benchmarks, which also contains 45 exchange rates and returns relative to USD.
GIFS Averages (former S&P classification) added to the Benchmarks universe.
Close to 400 IMF economic indicators also added as a new sub-universe under Benchmarks.
Market indexes categorized by major provider, exchange, and asset class.
Training Center tab added under Home, allowing users to register for upcoming training sessions worldwide.
Analysis/News/Report tab added under Fund Analysis and Equity Analysis, respectively, providing access to all qualitative commentaries in one location (initially US mutual funds, US ETFs, US Stocks, Australia Investment Trusts). Currently only the most recent analysis is available.
Enhanced Portfolio Statistics for Shorts and Derivatives
Asset allocation data shows long, short, and net positions for cash, equities, bonds, and other.
Portfolio statistics for equities (ratios) include an option to view as long or short.
All other portfolio statistics reflect long-only rescaled positions and include the rescaling factor.
Quicktake and Investment Summary reports, as well as a new Report Builder component incorporate new graphics to display long, short and/or net positions for asset allocations; all other portfolio graphics reflect long-only positions.
Future releases will roll out additional elements of this project for a truly comprehensive analysis of all the positions in the portfolio.
Aggregates and Custom Funds
New aggregate functionality and format: user can set the performance start date as aggregate inception, earliest common, or earliest available; daily frequency added as a rebalancing option; user can enter shares, dollar amount, or % weighting when defining aggregate; user can easily view reports and data views on aggregate immediately following creation without switching view; new aggregate can be created via importing.
New custom funds functionality and format added, replacing imports (please note, the old import functionality and format will NOT remain available); imported holdings processed immediately (no delay at the beginning of each month to get holdings processed); users can define and import bond securities or other user-defined securities; daily returns, in addition to monthly returns, can be imported; return series for multiple custom funds can be imported simultaneously.
Please note, aggregates and custom funds cannot be used as a benchmark in the fund universe and search result window. However, they are accessible as benchmarks in investment lists, charts, reports, and report builder.
Alerts
Alerts enabled for user-defined list of securities for such important changes as fund name, holdings file, open/close, Morningstar Rating, manager, etc.
Change notification enabled via email.
Report Builder Enhancements
New customizable components added to allow upload of a logo/image or insertion of user provided text. Drag the new components from the Component Library, under Customizable, or right-click in the grid to launch the dialogs.
Logo/image and text box components can be saved to My Custom Components for repeat use.
Landscape orientation enabled (please make selection in Report Settings before creating layout).
Dynamic benchmark capability provided in Report Settings for Benchmark 1 and 2. Instead of choosing a single benchmark to use for all reports in a batch, select a type of benchmark from the dropdown, like Morningstar Category Average or Primary Prospectus Benchmark. Report Builder will then select the appropriate benchmark for each investment at PDF generation.
New PDF output options: ability to generate a distinct PDF for each investment and save the batch to a local disk; ability to generate standard names for the PDF file(s) using the investment name, SecId, or ticker.
Morningstar Category Related Data and Functionality
Detailed holding data now available for Morningstar categories. The data are sampled from the member funds and available historically. Thid new data capability makes it possible to compare individual funds' holding pattern in relation to average holdings of the category peers. More advanced capabilities such as performance attribution relative to Morningstar categories can be developed.
New category data point added displaying number of investments in the category for most return time periods. The counts are available as of the most recent trailing daily, monthly, and quarterly time periods, and for the past 10 calendar years. For example, number of investments participating in category average returns for 1-month as of last business day may differ from that as of last month-end, and the count for 1-month return and 1-year trailing return as of the common date may also differ. In addition, historical monthly and quarterly number of investments in each category provided.
Category average portfolio statistics available as monthly time series.
New categories for Europe, Canada, India, and China funds added.
GIFS classifications added for non-US funds: GIFS data point added for all non-US funds to indicate which of the 703 GIFS strategies is associated with that fund, and 17 GIFS classification categories added to complement Morningstar non-US categories.
Quarter-end risk statistics added for Morningstar Category Averages and GIFS Averages.
Stock Data
Stock coverage expanded, including secondary share classes and stocks traded on exchanges in Canada (Toronto) and China (Shanghai and Shenzhen); stocks traded in UK (London) and Australia exchanges to be gradually introduced; user can view name, ticker, and exchange to identify a specific security.
Stock data points added: Stewardship Grade, Average Trading Volume for trailing three months
529 Plan Data
College education plans (529 plans) added. Data available on both plan level and portfolio level. Double clicking on plan or portfolio name leads to a pre-formatted report and analysis.
Charts/Graphs/Reports
Ownership zones for aggregates and custom funds with funds as holdings are now calculated based on the consolidated stock portfolio of all funds instead of based on the weighted average of each of the fund holdings, which allows for inclusion of individual stocks in the aggregate ownership zone.
Price chart added: user can display distributions on screen and dynamically change the time period.
Growth chart added: user can select the initial investment amount and dynamically change the time period (monthly data only).
Rolling return chart added: user can select absolute return or relative to category or benchmark and dynamically change the time period (monthly data only).
Graphs now found under Charts menu.
Ability to zoom in and out on most charts through right-click menu.
Right-click menu/actions on investments in Chart windows replaced by left double-click.
Ownership Data/Functionality
Historical holding view can be found under Action > View Holdings > Historical Holdings Analysis.
Ownership view for funds added, including underlying funds, ETF, CE, and SA (can view owners and ownership statistics for funds). For example, you may find all the owners for SPDRs.
New data points added: # Days to Liquidate (# shares owned/3 month average daily trading volume), Market Value % Ownership (portfolio's position market share/market cap of the stock)
Custom Calculation and Extended Historical Monthly Performance
Extended performance added to the historical monthly return database enabling the use of extended performance in custom calculations.
New currencies added for a total of 45 currencies.
Three new statistics: Omega and Kappa (3) join Sortino as downside risk-adjusted return measures; Jarque-Bera normality test added.
Calculations available in former S&P Workstation added: bear (or bull) alpha and beta, efficiency ratio, appraisal ratio, etc.
Most of the performance/risk statistics can now be calculated based on weekly returns. Annualization option is not available when source data is weekly.
Miscellaneous Data/Coverage
New market index data points added: asset class, sector orientation, market cap orientation, style orientation, country orientation, credit quality range, maturity range, municipal bond sector orientation, and bond sector orientation.
CUSIP and ISIN added for both funds and stocks.
GICS breakdown at the industry level added, covering 64 industries.
UK and Australia pension fund universe added. New insurance/life product sub-universes added: New Zealand insurance bonds, New Zealand superannuation funds, Singapore insurance linked funds, UK individual pension funds, UK life funds, UK pooled pension funds, Spain pension funds. New open-end fund sub-universes added: Malaysia unit trusts, New Zealand investment trusts, Poland open-end funds and Portugal open-end funds. New closed-end sub universe added: UK investment trusts. New exchange-traded fund sub-universes added: Canada exchange-traded funds, Japan exchange-traded funds.
UK asset allocation breakdown added. This is a very granular asset class scheme, containing over 60 refined asset classes and specially designed for UK investment analysis. Available as a data view in the United Kingdom Open End Funds universe.
A new data point, Leveraged Net Long, added for the United States Separate Account universe, indicating whether a strategy is 130/30 or 120/20.
Prime Broker added as a new data point to hedge fund universe.
Also added are some additional security IDs commonly used in European countries (e.g., WKN).
