When an account closes, the custodian does not generally send down the transactions needed to close the account in Morningstar Office. You can use our Generate Closing Transaction tool to create the needed transactions.
Generally you will see out of balances (OOBs) in your ‘Imported Accounts’ reconciliation option showing that Morningstar Office has a position in the account but the Custodian Position (Shares) column will have 0.00.
These show in the ‘Imported Accounts’ reconciliation option until the custodian stops sending any information in the files regarding the account.
Once the custodian stops sending information regarding this account in the files, you will no longer see the out of balances in the ‘Imported Accounts’ reconciliation option.
Change the Reconciliation option to All Posted Accounts in Morningstar.
You will now see the holdings in your closed account showing up with a red flag in the Closed? column.
From the toolbar above the grid, click Action and then Generate Closing Transactions.
A calendar will pop up; select the date that the account closed.
Click Yes to the message that pops up that asks if you want to re-run the reconciliation process. You should no longer see the out of balances for that closed account.
The last step is to add prices to the deliver-outs. From the blotter menu on the left, click on Transactions.
You will see transactions listed in red. Put a check next to these and click the Price Look-up button at the top. Click here for information on using the Price Lookup option.
From the top toolbar, click Save.
